RITA VILLARROEL GOMEZ
PRODUCTION DESIGNER/ ART DIRECTOR
“I’m Rita. When I was a little girl, my parents enrolled me in a dance academy. As we were preparing for our first tour, I realized that every girl had been chosen to perform—except me. When I asked the choreographer why, she looked at me kindly and said, ‘Sweetheart, you’re a terrible dancer, so we really can’t put you on stage. But my husband could use some help—he’s building the set.’ And that’s where it all began…”
Rita is a Production Designer, Set Designer, and Art Director with more than 25 years of experience in the film, television, advertising, and entertainment industries.
She studied audiovisual production, art direction, and set design in Venezuela and Spain, building a career that has taken her across Latin America, Spain, and the United States, where she has collaborated with renowned directors on a wide range of international productions.
Her work has received multiple industry honors. In 2015 and 2016, she won two ANDA Awards for Best Art Director. In 2022, her work on LOUD: The History of Reggaeton with Ivy Queen received recognition at The Webby Awards. In 2025, she was nominated for Best Art Director at the Berlin Music Video Awards for Luis Fonsi’s Buenos Aires.
Throughout her career, Rita has designed and art-directed numerous television commercials and advertising campaigns for international brands including ESPN, Coca-Cola, Nestlé, Pepsi, IKEA, and many others.
Her work in music has also brought her together with some of the most influential Latin artists in the industry, designing sets and visual environments for music videos featuring Daddy Yankee, Shakira, Ricky Martin, Maluma, Ozuna, Rauw Alejandro, Don Omar, and many more.
At the heart of her work is the same fascination that began backstage all those years ago: the ability to transform an empty space into a world, and an idea into something you can step inside.
